Position description
Bleecker Street is a New York City-based executive search firm that builds teams for, and invests in, top startups backed by the best venture capital firms in the world. Since 2024 we have worked with companies backed by 8VC, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Google Ventures, ICONIQ, IVP, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed, Sequoia Capital, Y Combinator, and others, on pivotal hires across every function and level of seniority. What you’ll do
Associates run the engine of every search. You will build a real understanding of each client, their market, their product, and what they need from the hire, then turn that into a search: sourcing, outreach, candidate interviews, write-ups, and the weekly conversation with the founder about where things stand. Within your first year you will lead two to three searches as the Bleecker Street point person while contributing to several more, for companies like Cognition, Decagon, Tennr, and Ambience Healthcare. Internally, Associates recruit, train, and manage our Analyst Interns, and shape the firm itself: strategy, operations, growth, and the important decisions, like what song plays next and whose turn it is to walk Sonny, our search support goldendoodle. This is not a support role. You will have real ownership from the first week.
What you bring to us
Love of learning. You get fluent in a new business model, a new function, and a new set of people every month, and you can explain it back to a founder who lives in it.
Joy. You make the room better. We work in one room on Spring Street, eat lunch together, and go to Yankees games, and the office is only as good as the people in it. Keeping it upbeat is part of the job.
Discipline. Outreach, calls, notes, follow-ups, every day, logged and accurate. Search rewards focused effort over time, and the compounding only happens if you show up for the boring parts.
Make a call. You will have incomplete information and a founder waiting. We want people who form a view, state it, and send the email today instead of refining it all week.
Beyond the values. A strong interest in startups and venture capital, sharp research and analytical instincts, clear writing and speaking, high initiative and attention to detail, and the ability to run several projects at once without dropping any of them. A sense of humor; you will be required to crack at least three jokes a day.
