All-seasons recommendations

Things to know

  • Stowe is a great all-seasons resort. You really can't go wrong with the time of year, with the exception of November (Stick Season!) and April/ May (mud season).

  • Stowe has a great restaurant scene. There are lots of great farm-to-table restaurants with Vermont microbrews.

  • Uber works now, with 10 to 15 minute waits. Blazer Taxi is the backup: (802) 253-0013.

Musts

  • Piecasso. Favorite restaurant in town, organic local pizza. The Pollo Verde (pesto, broccoli, chicken) outranks every pie in New York.

  • The Alchemist. Heady Topper and Focal Banger at the source.

  • The Matterhorn. The après-ski bar, riverside, near the slopes.

  • Sunset Rock. A ten-minute walk with a full view of the village and the mountain.

If it doesn’t snow

  • Walk the village. Start at the church on Main Street, wander the shops, then up the Mountain Road to the overlook.

  • The Rec Path. Five paved miles along the Little River, bike and stroller friendly.

  • Swim. Bingham Falls, and river spots all over TripAdvisor.

  • Burlington. 45 minutes away, very walkable.

  • Ben & Jerry’s factory. Tour, tasting, an hour well spent.

  • Cold Hollow Cider Mill. A tourist trap, but very autumnal. Cider donuts.

  • Hike the Pinnacle. The best view-per-effort hike in town, about 90 minutes up. Worth it in snow.

If it snows

  • Snowshoe or cross-country ski. Trapp’s outfits you and guides you on their trails.

  • Horse-drawn sleigh. From the barn across from Topnotch on the Mountain Road.

  • Ski. Two mountains; Mount Mansfield is the bigger one, and the Quad takes you to the Front Four.
